HOUSTON – It’s now officially game week , and for the Texans it couldn’t arrive soon enough
“It’s going to come down to who wants it more, first game, great team in Buffalo and I would like to say the same about ourselves as well,” said Safety Jalen Pitre Monday afternoon at his locker.
Last year’s playoff exit at New England made for a tough offseason, but the Texans have now turned the page.
The spotlight no doubt will be on #7, can quarterback C.J. Stroud bounce back from his playoff struggles and return to his rookie season form? Snaps have been limited in the preseason but facing the Texans defense on a daily basis is the ultimate test. His teammates believe he’ll return to form this season.
“C.J. has proven time and time again that he’s a great quarterback,” said Offensive lineman Ed Ingram Monday. “He’s been to the playoffs the past three years now. It’s like I don’t know how you can duck on him.”
“C.J. and our offense have battled throughout all of training camp against a really tough defense,” said Head Coach DeMeco Ryans. “They’ve had their days where they made plays and it’s a very competitive camp so now let’s go see it.”
The Texans defense now gets to show the NFL they can match last season’s #1 ranked form. Points are hard to come by against this group and starting Sunday DeMeco Ryans expects his unit to send a message that they are formidable group yet again.
“I expect our defense again to be the strength of our team ,” Ryans added. “I expect the offense to come right along with us.”
The Texans and Bills kickoff at 12pm Sunday at Reliant Stadium.
