Off-duty Border Patrol officer shot in face at NYC park; person in custody

A person of intertest was taken into custody Sunday in connection to the shooting of an off-duty U.S. Border Patrol officer inside a park in New York City, law enforcement sources said.

The shooting took place at a park in Washington Heights late Saturday night, the NYPD confirmed overnight.

According to police sources, a 42-year-old man was shot in the face and arm a few minutes before midnight in Fort Washington Park. He was rushed to Harlem Hospital.

Immediately after the shooting, the NYPD was looking for two suspects Sunday morning. One person of interest was taken into custody later that morning, but it wasn’t immediately clear if a second person was still being sought.

Law enforcement sources added that the person of interest had tried to rob the off-duty officer before both parties opened fire at one another.
